Doug’s session on Sustainability reporting was one of the best we’ve had. He covered reporting standards, COSO principles and key recent developments. Doug tailored the session to our audience of IT and risk professionals – not the intro “ESG” stuff we’ve heard many times. He offered useful insights. He essentially coached our attendees on how they can up their game, collaborate with others, and add value to their organizations. This would be an excellent workshop for any group. It would be a good kick-off for a company improving their Sustainability programs and reporting.
Doug and his team helped us compile our first GHG emissions inventory. We began with a pilot exercise, using data, information, and a model our team had prepared. They helped us ask the right questions, find all the relevant sources of data and information, and learn what to do with it. They helped us navigate our own accounting system to get information we needed, and to identify some gaps and where else we could get usable data. We also identified some improvement opportunities that will help the business’s accounting functions work better. With our team’s deep experience in operations and environmental, we thought Scope 1 and Scope 2 would be easy – it is not. They emphasized how important it is to document everything we did, and make sure it was replicable. With the process documents, tools, and other information, we are confident will do well in any audit. We have used DHC’s co-sourcing model for years. Our core team learned by doing, with Doug and his team in the trenches with us. We encountered spirited discussion with senior management team in the late stages of this project. Doug stood firm, and was able to support the team’s work with references to applicable protocols and standards, and his experience from Big 4 audit support practice.
